Changes by Elyzabeth M. VaLey

It might not seem like it, but changes are a constant in our lives. It’s the same when it comes to writing. When I started working on my latest release Spanish Diversion, I only had one thing clear and that was my lead character, Shane. Following the habit I’ve gotten into lately, I wrote out his mini character profile on my notebook (yep, writing on paper isn’t dead!)

Spanish Diversion characters

Shane is blonde, with gorgeous blue eyes and a dazzling smile. He’s not scraggly thin but he’s not overly muscled either. He’s friendly, sweet, a bit shy and has a tendency to worry too much about everything.

Now, when it came to write about his match, things got difficult. Initially, her name was Cristina and she was going to pursue Shane restlessly. I wrote the first few lines of the novel set on making things work but quickly realizing that something was off. It soon dawned on me what was wrong. Shane wasn’t really interested in Cristina, he preferred his mate to be taller, darker and with some meat between the legs.

With that thought in mind, Alejandro came to life. Tall, with dark hair and dark eyes, he’s unreserved, bold and doesn’t like to think about the future too much.  He’s Spanish and when I wrote out his profile I did so in his native language (with a few touches in English *grin*).

Things changed during the writing process (like the name of Shane’s best friend or the title of the book) and things changed for the characters.  Some changes were easy to accept and others not so much, but Shane, Alejandro (and I) learned to deal with it. It wouldn’t be life if there weren’t any changes.

Giveaway: I’m giving away a copy of Spanish Diversion to a random commentator. Comment below, telling me about a change in your life (anything from life-altering to a daily something) to enter the giveaway.

Blurb:

Ever since his last boyfriend labeled him as predictable and boring, Shane has gone out of his way to demonstrate that he’s not. He’s moved to Spain, taken a job as an English teacher and decided that partying all night long is going to be his thing. Fun first is his new motto, regardless of what his heart has to say about it after meeting Alejandro.

After leaving his bed without even a goodbye, Alejandro thought he’d never see the sexy American again, so when he reappears in his life he can hardly believe his luck. With a chemistry between them that is off the charts, he wants something more than just a night of passion.

Shane insists he just wants to party but Alejandro is determined to make him see that, together, they can have much more than just fun.

Author: Lisa Fox

World-renowned neurosurgeon, master chef, secret member of American royalty, seducer of legions of beautiful, outrageously sexy angels and demons and vampires and werewolves and the occasional pirate, Lisa Fox has done it all… in her own mind. In reality, she can generally be found at her desk with a cup of coffee close at hand. Or maybe a martini. It really depends on the day.

  1. Those types of changes are a lot of the reason why I love being a pantser. It is always exciting to see where a character is going to take you! Thanks so much for hanging out with is today, Elyzabeth!

  2. *wink* Love those sexy Spankish…I mean Spanish guys ;)

  3. Hi! So interesting how an idea can change. Well, the next change in my life may be that I will (probably) be unemployed soon so I plan to move to either Portland, OR or England. Thanks!

  4. It’s amazing how the stories want their own way instead of how you plan it. That’s the joy of writing.

  5. Having children changed my life in ways I could not have imagined before.
