Being a romance hero isn’t just about saving the girl, it’s about saving the entire freaking world. There are many ways our handsome, dashing alpha men can do this, but one of the more civilized and cultured methods is through philanthropy.

 

Philanthropy isn’t about just writing a check at a fundraiser. As Wikipedia so elegantly states, “Not all charity is philanthropy or vice-versa. The difference commonly cited is that charity relieves the pains of social problems, whereas philanthropy attempts to solve those problems at their root causes—the difference between giving a hungry man a fish and teaching him how to fish for himself.”

A hero dedicates his time and money and influence to the ideals he believes in. He is the architect who uses green technology, the shipping mogul who cares about the ocean, the surgeon who does pro bono work.

All of this has a price, and our hero must attend balls and foundation dinners where he is often the guest of honor or an active member of the board of directors, which gives him a really great reason to look sexy in a tux. For the betterment of the world of course.
